Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Cupid in the Landscape Garden, Stourhead by St George Hare (Limerick 1857 – London 1933), 1912 and signed: HARE. A full-length winged cupid is sharpening an arrowhead whilst perched on an inscribed milestone, including XXV in large roman numerals, against a background of Stourhead garden. Inscribed on the back: 'In commemoration of Sir Henry and Lady Hoare's Silver Wedding October 1912'.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
