Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Thomas Lane (1741/2 -1817) by Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792), 1762-64. A half-length portrait of Thomas Lane facing to the left, wearing a mauve coat and a white stock. The lace at his right wrist, previously overpainted, has become faintly visible since the picture was cleaned.
Provenance
By descent to Julia Lane, Mrs Henry Arthur Hoare of Wavendon; given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
