Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Landscape with a Ruin and two Figures on a Road by Andrea Locatelli (Rome 1695 – Rome 1741?), previously Jan Frans van Bloemen, called Orizzonte (Antwerp 1662 – Rome 1749). Two female nymph-like figures are seen on a path, one sitting, the other standing, in the right foreground. Behind is a classical landscape with ruins on a hill on the left and a large stone pine bending to the right
Provenance
Acquired by Henry Hoare II, the ‘Magnificent’ (1705 – 1785) ; Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
