Oil painting on canvas, A Child's Head, attributed to John Opie RA (St Agnes 1761 - London 1807) A bust of a young peasant girl in an ochre dress and russet cloak against a plain sky background. Her right arm is not visible and her left arm is in front of her chest. She looks downwards with a forlorn expression.
Provenance
Acquired by Richard Colt Hoare 2nd Bt (1758 – 1838); given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
