Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 - 1947) by St George Hare (Limerick 1857 – London 1933), circa 1909, signed top left: HARE. A three-quarter-length portrait of the man who gave Stourhead to the National Trust in 1946, a year before his death. He is seated in a hunting pink coat, with a cigarette in his left hand, the smoke of which is rising upwards. The Chippendale chair on which he is seated is still at the house.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
