Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Poor Clare being blessed by a Bishop Italian School, 17th century. In a landscape a Poor Clare kneels in the centre and is blessed by a bishop, on the left, watched and surrounded by other figures on both sides. In the foreground, on the left, a mason, presumably laying the foundations of the Poor Clare's convent, dressed in a red coat, with his back to the viewer, kneels on one leg and has stopped working with his trowel in his right hand in the air. Behind the nun (possibly a Franciscan nun) an acolyte holds a pennant adorned with the cross of Saint George.
