Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Richard Hoare, Kt (1648 - 1718) by Jonathan Richardson the younger (London 1694 – London 1771), circa 1712. He is seated, three quarter length, to the left and wearing Lord Mayor's red robes, a chain and long wig. He is holding [x] in his left hand and on his right on a stone plinth is a large sword propped up against the wall. Father of Henry Hoare I, he was founder of the bank in 1672 and Lord Mayor in 1712.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
