Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Bay with a Temple and Tower by Copplestone Warre Bamfylde (Taunton 1720 – Somerset 1791), initialled and dated 1766. A framed oval painting with the scene framed by trees on both sides. Two goats clamber on rocks at the far left. In the centre foreground a man sits on the ground with his dog. A figure riding a camel and leading another camel loaded with packs approaches from the left. In the middle distance, men with small fishing boats are busy at the shoreline. A circular temple and a three-storey tower occupy the far right shoreline of the bay at the foot of a rocky mountainside. The tower is outlined against the sky where light from the setting sun breaks through pink-tinged sky.
