Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Still Life of Flowers in a Case, Cape Gooseberries and Stag-beetles by Philips van Kouwenberg (c.1669-1729), signed bottom right: P v Kouwenberg. A still-life painting of fruit and flowers are placed on the right by a rocky ledge on which is resting a bird's nest above. On the left is a stem of an ivy entwined shrub, with toadstools in the bottom corner and snails and insects on the ground with flying stag beetles in the centre.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
