Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Classical Landscape with Figures on a Road, attributed to Gaspard Dughet (Rome 1615 - Rome 1675), circa 1650-60. A road leads to a village in the distance past an Italianate church with a tower, on the right. Figures rest on either side of the road and two dogs stand in the middle in the foreground.
Provenance
Acquired by Henry Hoare II (1705-85) in 1758 at the sale of Sir Luke Schaub (1690 - 1758) who had acquired Italian pictures cheaply in Spain; thence by descent until given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
