Summary
A pair of square dishes, soft paste porcelain painted in enamels and gilded, Worcester Porcelain Factory, England, circa 1770. 'Queen Charlotte' pattern, decorated with alternating cobalt blue and iron red bands radiating from a central medallion. Impressed 'BFB' beneath a crown. The design is based on Japanese 'whorl' or 'Catherine wheel' patterns copied at Meissen in Germany in the 1740s and at Worcester in the late 1750s. It was very popular and is associated with Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III, who may have acquired a service following a visit to the factory in 1788.
