Summary
Oil painting on canvas, La cruche cassée after Jean-Bapiste Greuze (Tournus 1725 – Paris 1805), 19th century. An oval framed painting of a girl standing, facing, wearing a white satin dress and holding pink flowers gathered in her clothing, in a landscape in front of a classical monument on the right.The original painting is in the Louvre, having been seized from the collection of the Comtesse Du Barry in the French Revolution.
Provenance
In Dunster Castle inventory, 1910, p.4 as in Library. Previously on loan, 1975; gift of Lt-Col Geoffrey Walter Fownes Luttrell (1919 – 2007) to the National Trust in 1981.
