Summary
Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Gentleman, English school, early 18th century. A half-length portrait to the left, wearing crimson velvet coat with white cravat and short full-bottomed wig. There is some resemblance between this sitter and the sitter portrayed as Francis Drewe. However, the present portrait may be some twenty years earlier and possibly Alexander Luttrell (1705 - 1737) who married Margaret Trevelyan of whom there is a portrait at Nettlecombe.
Provenance
Previously on loan, 1975; gift of Lt -Col Geoffrey Walter Fownes Luttrell (1919 – 2007) to the National Trust in 1981.
