Verso: On old label on back of panel: Thunderbolt/by [ - ? -]/A Capital hunter & great favourite of J.V.[?] Chute, was bought at Tattershalls for 50 guineas after he was to be [ - ? - ] in the near foreleg, but being fired [ADL: this is correct = painful (& controversial) procedure to relieve strained tendons!] the leg became all right (?) & sound, Mr. Morant (?) who sold him, had refused 500 guineas for him before the accident. Was hunted 5 years by JVC [?] came to [?] where he was shot after 5 years more [?] and buried in the Broom Plantation Ap. 21 1811/Ætat 22 years.
