Oil painting on canvas, A River Scene with Rocky Banks and a Waterfall by Johann Heinrich Müntz (Mulhouse 1727 – Kassel 1798), circa 1755. A rocky river landscape, with a tree on the left, and figures of itinerant traders on a path to the left of centre. This painting was probably intended to be fitted an overdoor or overmantel. A pair with NT 719407.
Provenance
Probably one of the "3 landscapes by Mr. Muntz" in the Dining [Chapel] Parlour in the undated picture list of John Chute's time, no doubt serving as an overdoor, in the 18th century; bequeathed with The Vyne, estate and contents by Sir Charles Chute, 1st Bt (1879-1956)
