A sailor doll manufactured by Norah Wellings. The doll is moulded with a fine knitted fabric face and painted eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows, nostrils and mouth. The back of the head is in a different fabric. The doll is wearing a faded blue velvet uniform and has black velvet feet. There is a pale blue fabric collar around the doll's neck ending at the front in a black ribbon. There is a twisted string for, possibly a missing whistle, which is threaded underneath the front of the collar and knotted. He is wearing a flat white cap with a blue band with yellow lettering reading 'M.V.Devonshire' along it. A blue ribbon is attached to the left hand side of the blue band of the cap. The fingers are defined by stitching.

Around the blue band of the cap: 'M.V.DEVONSHIRE' A label on the left foot: 'MADE IN ENGLAND/ BY/ NORAH WELLINGS'
