A clockwork tinplate brown painted left boot made in Japan from circa 1950's. The boot would orginally have a dog attached to the rod on the top. The clockwork mechanism inside the boot would shake the dog which is attached to the protruding rod, although it it is supposed to look as if the dog was shaking the boot. Another shorter shaft sticks up just in front of the lace holes, which is the winding mechanism.
