Summary
Oil painting on panel, Head of a Girl by Pieter Van Mol (1559 - Paris 1650). Head of a girl, with black hair brushed back, in profile to the left, colourful scarf or collar. A triangular peniment stretches across the neck. The painting which is close to Jordaens, was catalogued with an attribution to that artist. When brought to London for cleaning in 1969 it was shown to Mr Michael Jaffe who recognised it as a work of van Mol. It is freely painted almost in the nature of a sketch. Note on reverse in Field Marshal's hand recording cleaning by Leggat and Co. in 1943. Inscribed on the reverse--'5.9'. According to the 1944 inventory the painting is from the Hamilton Palace Collection.
