Summary
Oil painting on canvas, William Meux Massingberd (d.1780), attributed to Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792). A half-length portrait in Van Dyck dress. He was the son of Thomas Meux and Elizabeth massingberd (who succeeded to Gunby on the death of her brother, the third and last baronet). He assumed the name of Massingberd. By his two wives, first Mary Thornborough and secondly Miss Drake, he was the father of ten children. d.1780. It is possible, despite the lack of any evidence, that this portrait is by Reynolds, but in its damaged and repainted condition judgment is out of the question.
