Tea caddy veneered with pieces of horn between chequered bands of ebony and ivory and similar stringing. Diamond design on top and sides. Red velvet lined interior containing plated caddies (GUN/S/30) (dated 1780) and central cut glass well. Silver shaped loop handle on top.
Presented by Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery-Massingberd to the National Trust in 1944 as part of the Gunby Hall collection. Earlier provenance, from Peregrine Massingberd back to his maternal grandmother, engraved on the caddies (and saga of the engraving recorded in correspondence held with the caddy).
