Summary
A carved oak chest, Dutch, early 17th century. With a faceted hinged lid above a carved panel front depiction King Solomon leading prayers, flanked by figural pilasters above lion's masks, plinth base. The panel carved in the round with 'DE KONICK SALAMON SPRACK GEBET DISER DAT KIND BENDICK DAN DE IS SIN MOD' With iron handles to the sides, paper label inside inscribed 'E.L.L.'
Provenance
Gifted to the National Trust by Field Marshal Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery Massingberd in 1944.
