Summary
Oil painting on panel, Henry George Tierney Elton (1825-1905), as a boy by Edward Villiers Rippingille (1798-1959), signed and dated EVR 1831. A portrait of the eleventh child and youngest son of Sir Charles Abraham Elton 6th Bt (1778-1853) and Sarah Smith (1782-1830) as a young boy, sitting on the rocky ledge of a bank, leaning on his left arm, gazing at the spectator. He wears a belted blue smock with long sleeves, over a white skirt, short white stockings and black shoes. The smock has a small white lace collar and is tied at the neck with a bow. His straw hat lies at his feet on the left. Dark indistinct bosky background.
