Oil painting on canvas, Joseph Smith (1742-1825), possibly Thomas Beach (Milton Abbas 1738 – Dorchester 1806). Inscription, on left...... A portrait of Joseph Smith as a young man, half-length, turned to right, gazing at spectator. He has a powdered wig and is wearing a dark blue coat, with yellow collar of his waistcoat showing beneath his frilled white shirt. He was an in-law of Sarah Smith (1782-1830) the wife of Sir Charles Abraham Elton 6th Bt MP (1778-1853).
