Summary description

Oil painting on panel, Large Group of Figures on the Beach in the manner of Jan Van Goyen (1596-1656), 17th century (?), signed and dated [? later addition], bottom left: VGOYEN 1640. A coastal scene with fishing boats and fish market.

Provenance

Given in 1981 by Mrs C.V. Lawson who had inherited it from Mr Elmar Digby. It was in accordance with his wishes that his collection should pass to the National Trust. Mr Digby my have inherited it from his father, Lord Digby, Minterne.
