Summary
A mahogany 'Gainsborough' armchair, English, circa 1920. The rectangular padded back with padded open arms raised on incurved supports carved with leaf decoration and rosette terminals, the rectangular seat standing on leaf and cabochon carved cabriole legs with claw and ball feet. The term 'Gainsborough' refers to a high-back armchair with wide seat and set-back open arms met mid-way by a curved support.
