Summary
Bedcover of silk woven lampas, trimmed, lined. Pale aquamarine/gold silk lampas; neo-classical design. Basket and vase with flowers, ribbons a) fringe silk and metal wrapped drops 7cm b) silk boucle cord b) cream cotton Top section pieced together; two complete widths and 3 1/2' widths; sides have 1 width each; end only one complete width,others,parts only; top section edged with trim. b); Sides edged with trim a); lined thoughout, machine and hand sewn. Woven lampas brocade; pale aquamarine silk warp; gold and pale aquamarine silk weft; warp faced satin ground; gold silk weft (brocaded?); unbalanced plain weave motifs. Loom width 530 mm (21 in). Selvage-aqua/rich yellow to gold vertical stripe. Straight repeat drop 1775 mm (70 in); neoclassical; 2 main motifs; basket with flowers and ribbons; vase with lilies. a) fringe 7cm gold silk cable cords; with alternate spiralled metal drops wrapped with pale aqua silk; pale cream/green silk 4 pom-pom tassell drops. b) pale cream/green boucle silk cord. a) cream silk plain weave loom width 61cm (24 ins) b)cream cotton plain weave(down proof) c) interlining, plain weave undyed cotton 'calico' d) pale aqua silk plain weave e)cream/pale aqua silk plain weave loom width plus 128cm. Fabric woven in France or England, although machine sewn; original seams on T/22/12;9;8;6;4;3;1,bedcover T/22/1;10;12 suggests bed hangings, window curtains as well ? (much patched and reused). Linings A,D and E are original, B and C 20th century alterations. See ATT/T/23 for patches on 12 and 5. 1861 Inventory 'Old Dining Room (taken down)...elegant State Bed Irons Leads Rods and Canopy fitted up elegantly carved mouldings and ornaments blue and white Lyons silk hangings trimmed silk fringe to complete'. Made in England or France circa 1780.
