Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Richard Hill of Tern (1724-1734), British (English) School, circa 1730/35. A boy, three-quarter length, standing, turned slightly to left, facing spectator, wearing a full bottomed wig, a red mantle, and lace cravat; his right hand rests on the back of a spaniel on a ledge at the left, the spaniel’s left paw in his left hand. Richard Hill of Tern (1724-1734) the eldest son of Thomas Harwood (who took the name of Hill) (1639-1782), by his first wife Anne Powys. Richard Hill died young, at the age of 10 years.

Attingham collection. 1913 Inventory p.89; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
