Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Imaginary Landscape with the River Volturno by Jakob Philipp Hackert (Prenzlau 1737 – San Piero di Careggi 1807), signed and dated Filippo Hackert dipinse 1797. A bridge in the middle distance spans a river that winds out to sea. Italianate buildings on precipitous rocks at right; a shepherd resting in the foreground with his family, cattle and sheep.

Believed to be 3rd Lord Berwick collection: William Noel-Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773-1842). 1847 Catalogue of Paintings, p.18; 'Heirloom' 1947 Probate Valuation no.63; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
