Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Edward Phelips III (1638-1699), British (English) School, inscribed Sir Edward Phelips 1688. A painted oval portrait of the son of Edward Phelips II and Anne Pye as a middle-aged gentleman, half-length, turned to the left, gazing at spectator, long brown hair, wearing an armoured breast plate with a crimson velvet cloak lined with blue silk over his left shoulder. Dark background. He married, firstly, Dorothy Cheeke and, secondly, Edith Blake. He had no children by his first wife and three daughters by his marriage to Edith Blake.
