In 1915 the lease of Montacute was taken on by ‘that most superior person George Nathanial Curzon’. He had a genuine love of old buildings, spending much of his life and fortune restoring Montacute and his family homes at Kedleston, Bodiam Castle and Tattershall Castle (all NT).
