Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Called Maria Wright, Mrs Edward Phelips V (1730-1793) as a Girl, attributed to Michael Dahl (1656–1743), inscribed with name of sitter and date 1740. Portrait of a young girl, half-length turned to left, gazing at spectator, holding a white flower in her left hand, her blonde hair is dressed with pink flowers and she wears a white satin dress and cloak which billows behind her.
Provenance
On loan from the Phelips family since 1931; purchased with the aid of the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the V&A Museums and Galleries Commission Purchase Grant Fund in 1989.
