Summary
Dish (one of four, see also 581719), porcelain, of shallow saucer form, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, China, 1700-1720; painted in underglaze blue, translucent overglaze (famille verte) enamels, with a central yellow peony tree surrounded by four floral spray and branches, chrysanthemum, prunus (plum tree and lotus; the underside has a double footring; base with double concentric rings enclosing an Artemisia leaf in underglaze blue.
Full description
The double hollowed out footring is associated with the Southeast Asian markets, perhaps designed to be raised on a stand. This dish appears in a 1918 Country Life photograph above a door, No. 4, in the dining room, upside down.
