Summary
Shaving basin or barber's bowl, porcelain, bowl with wide rim with semi-circular notch in the rim to rest beside the neck, moulded lip to minimise spillage, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, China, c. 1720-1740; decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red enamel and gold (Imari-style palette), painted with a stylised peony tree issuing from rockwork and scattered sprays, the rim with diaper panels and scrollwork.
