Summary
Beaker vase, two, porcelain, each of tall cylindrical form, octagonal section, with flaring base and wide mouth, made in Arita, Japan, c. 1695-1720; decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red enamel and gold (Imari-style palette), painted around the sides with a continuous scene of plants, bamboo and pine trees, the mouth with a dense band of cloud scrolls and flowers, the inside of the mouth with geometric panels alternating with peony motifs, the base a lappet band of panels with flower motifs.

This pair of beakers were probably originally part of a five piece set with three additional matching jars, known as a garniture.
