Summary
Bowl, porcelain, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, China, circa 1735-1740; decorated in black enamel ('encre de Chine' or 'en grisailles'), gold and possibly silver, the exterior painted with a continuous scene of blossoming peony branches and foliage with a bird, perhaps a magpie, the rim with a broad bade of undulating shape having a fish-roe ground edged in gold line bands; interior with a narrow yellow rim band with Greek-key or fret border.
