Oil painting on canvas, Dr John Barwick (1612 - 1664), English school, circa 1640-50 A half-length portrait of Dean of St Paul's (1661) to whom King Charles I gave the Aristides Ring on the scaffold.Inscribed on right: Dr Barwick/ Dean of St Paul's. He is sittiing with his left hand across his chest and his right hand pointing on a book.
Provenance
By inheritance to the sitter's niece, Mary Barwick, Lady Dutton (1661/2 - 1721/3) and sfter until bequeathed by Charles Dutton, 7th Baron Sherborne (1911 – 1982), along with the rest of the Sherborne Estate, to the National Trust in 1982
