Caption
St John the Baptist, in animal skins which he wore in the wilderness, is seen here alone as a curly haired young man holding a reed cross. He is pointing to a scroll which says ECCE AGNUS DEI (Behold the Lamb of God). The artist to whom this painting is attributed was a pupil of Leonardo in Milan.

Saint John the Baptist as a curly haired man holding cross-shaped staff and pointing to a scroll saying ECCE AGNUS DEI (Behold the Lamb of God).
