Oil painting on canvas, Sir Richard Croft, 6th Bt (1762-1818) by John James Halls (1776-1853), 1803/4. A half-length portrait, without hands, to the left, in black; red curtain background. A duplicate, which once belonged to Major R.A.F Croft at Farnhams Hall, exists elsewhere.
Provenance
By descent; acquired from the estate of Sir James Croft, 11th Bt (d. 1941) by Brig-Gen. Sir Henry Page Croft, 1st Lord Croft (1881–1947), by whom left to his only son, Michael, 2nd Lord Croft (1916–1997); loaned to The National Trust by Michael Henry Glendower Page Croft circa 1960; accepted by HM Government in Lieu of Inheritance Tax from the estate of Michael Henry Glendower Page Croft and allocated to The National Trust for display at Croft Castle in 2004.
