Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Herbert Croft, 1st Bt, MP (c.1652 - 1720), British (English) School, late 17th century. A bust-length portrait in scarlet cloak and white cravat, wearing long, soft, flowing curly hair (wig?); with brown eyes. MP for Herefored, 1679 and1690-8, created 1st Baronet 1671. He married Elizabeth Archer in 1676 and died in 1720.
Provenance
Commissioned by Sir Herbert Croft, 1st Bt, MP (c.1652 - 1720); loaned to the National Trust by Michael Henry Glendower Page Croft, 2nd Baron (1916-1997) circa 1960; accepted by HM Government in Lieu of Inheritance Tax from the estate of Michael Henry Glendower Page Croft and allocated to The National Trust for display at Croft Castle in 2004.
