Summary
An oil painting on panel with canvas strips, King Henry VIII (1491–1547), after Hans Holbein the younger (Augsburg 1497/8 - London 1543). An oval painted bust half-length portrait of Henry VIII, facing the viewer. He is wearing a hat, a fur-edged cloak with a bejewelled collar. Red and gold sleeves visible. Inscribed in round spandrels, top left: HE, top right: VIII, bottom left: REX, bottom right: AG. Framed in large gilt frame. Bought by George Lucy from Mr Emmerson in 1824 for £50; on loan from Sir Edmund Fairfax-Lucy (b. 1949).
