Summary
Oil painting on panel, Queen Mary I (Mary Tudor) (1516–1558), aged 41 after Hans Eworth (Antwerp c.1525 – ?London after 1578). Half portrait of Queen Mary I, direct gaze with spectator, with her head slightly turned to the right. Hands clasped together above the waist with four rings visible. Wearing a black dress with red, white and detail to the sleeves. White collar with gold decoration, wearing a gold crucifix hanging from a double pearl necklace, A large brooch with a dark stone inset in the middle and pendant hanging from the bottom. She also wears a gold belt and an elaborate headdress. Inscribed, left and right of her head: MARIA DEI GRACIA / ANGLIE REGINA/ AETATIS/41/1556 In an ornate gilt frame with elaborate detail. Hanging from chains. Left to Charlecote by Revd. John Lucy 1874;
