Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Thomas Williamson Ramsay (1756-1838) of Lixmount and Maxton, by Sir Henry Raeburn, RA (Stockbridge 1756 – Edinburgh 1823), circa 1800-10. A three-quarter-length, seated, portrait of Thomas Williamson Ramsay, facing the viewer, turned to the left. He is seated on a red upholstered chair at a table covered with a green cloth and various documents including one entitled ‘Submission’. He is wearing black with a white stock. His left hand resting on the table, his right on his knee. Framed in large, carved giltwood frame with picture label attached ‘Thomas Williamson Ramsey of Lixmount and Maxton B 1756 D. 1838 by Sir Henry Raeburn’. By inheritance and descent, via Thomas Williamson Ramsay's third daughter, and eventual heir, Archibald Montgomerie Williamson Ramsay (d.1844), who married Colonel Sir Henry Fairfax, 1st Bt. (1790–1860).
