Summary
Oil painting on canvas, William Bromley MP & Speaker (1663/4-1732), attributed to Michael Dahl (Stockholm 1656/9 – London 1743), circa 1704-14. A three-quarter-length portrait of William Bromley MP, in a landscape setting with trees visible over his left shoulder. He is turned to the left with a direct gaze to the spectator. He is wearing a dark green coat, white stock and cuffs. He is holding a mauve cloak in his left hand with right arm outstretched pointing out of the frame. In a large giltwood frame. William Bromley of Baginton Hall, Warwickshire was Speaker of House of Commons in 1712 and Secretary of State 1713-14. Apparently this portrait was given by the sitter to his cousin, Colonel George Lucy (d. 1721);
