Summary
Oil painting on canvas, George Lucy (1714 - 1786) by Charles Lucy (London 1692 - ?Rome after 1758), 1758. A three-quarter-length portrait of George Lucy, (also known as Bachelor George) standing slightly right, wearing grey embroidered with black, white waistcoat, grey breeches, white cuffs and cravat: his right hand on his hip and his left tucked in his waistcoat. Dark background. Framed in carved giltwood frame, hanging from chains. Supposedly painted by his kinsman Charles Lucy. He succeeded to Charlecote on the death of his brother Thomas Lucy in 1744. He was High Sheriff of Warwick in 1769. He laid out the park and introduced the (black and white Spanish) Jacob sheep. He was the last of the direct line of male Lucy’s, as he died unmarried and was succeeded by Reverend John Hammond.
