Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Duck Shoot in the Snow by W. Nicholls (fl.1807-1814), signed and dated on the fence (but now barely legible): W. Nicholls 1807. A snow-covered landscape, a woodcutter on the left, to his right, two trees with a fence between them, a man climbing over the fence, head turned to the right, in the centre-foreground a man turned to the right, shooting at a duck which had just flown from a stream on the right; in the far distance, centre right, are two snow-covered cottages.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
