Summary
Oil painting on panel, A Sportsman shooting woodcock, with two pointers, by Dean Wolstenholme (Waltham Abbey 1798 - Highgate 1882). Landscape , a clearing on the edge of a wood, trees to left and right, small trees and shrubs behind, in the clearing a man on the right wearing a short grey coat, gaiters and hat, firing a gun a two flying birds, one of which is falling, in front of the gunman on the left are two pointers. Extensive view to the left, blue sky with clouds.
Provenance
Cooling Gallery. Date of acquisition by Lord Fairhaven is unknown. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
