Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Dutch Barges off the Coast, attributed to John Sell Cotman (Norwich 1782 – London 1842). A ‘Dort’ barge in the left foreground, with sails and flags, other sailing ships/barges lightly sketched in the right background, blue sky with clouds.
Provenance
J.S.Cotman, great grandson of the artist. Date of acquisition by Lord Fairhaven is unknown. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
