A full-length male nude figure with Cross, background of rocks and water. Naked muscular young man, full-length, with a white modesty veil, leaning down and looking down to the right, against a crucifix, full-length, his right knee in the kneeling position on a stool which is covered with a cloth, his right arm stretched upwards, elbow outside the picture edge, his left arm down by his side, with his hand tucked behind his thigh. Indeterminate rocks and water to the right. The Etty model is taking the same pose as the naked saint holding onto a cross on the right hand side of the painting (on the same plane as the central figure of God), which depicts the saints and martyrs; St Catherine with her wheel is just below him to the left.
