Summary
Oil painting on panel, The Crucifixion, Flemish School, circa 1600. Christ on the cross in the foreground, a skull and crossed bones at his feet, three female figures mourning below. Green and blue hills in middle ground, a northern European town visible in the background.
Provenance
Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Recorded on page 32 of the Sotheby's Inventory and Valuation of Benthall Hall dated July 1992. Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to The National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
