Summary
Oil painting on canvas, King Charles I (1601-1649) (after Van Dyck), British (English) School, 17th century. A three-quarter-length portrait, turned to the right but almost facing, gazing at the spectator, long dark hair, moustache and pointed beard, wearing full armour with only white collar and cuffs visible, a gold chain and St George medallion at neck, a gilt sword and hanger at his waist. His right hand holds a baton, his left rests on his helmet, a spaniel's head is visible in the lower left corner. Upper right, figures (military encampment?) and a house in a landscape.
